Pb child commission takes suo motu notice of girl's gangrape,

Taking suo motu notice of the gangrape and murder of a girl here, Punjab State Commission for Protection of Child Rights today directed the Commissioner of Police, Ludhiana, to depute a senior officer to thoroughly investigate the matter.
An official release quoting PSCPCR Chairman Sukesh Kalia said he has also asked Commissioner of Police Paramraj Singh Umra Nangal to submit the report by September 18.
Speaking to the Police Commissioner over phone, Kalia directed him to arrest the accused at the earliest. The chairman also asked the official to take a personal interest in the case and to submit a detailed plan about the steps taken by police regarding the safety of children in the city.
He said the commission will not tolerate any such unfortunate incidents in the future.
An 18-year-old girl was allegedly gangraped and murdered in this industrial town of Punjab.
The victim's father told the police that his daughter, who was a student of class XII, had gone to school on Wednesday but did not return home following which he filed a complaint on the same day.
The girl's naked body, legs tied with a piece of cloth, was recovered from Sidhwan canal at Barewal road here on Thursday.
