"Punjab cops should refrain from issuing threats to BJP candidates and workers and they should not make any attempt to intimidate the party workers," BJP national secretary Tarun Chugh said in a statement issued here.
Chugh, who was today at Sanaur in Patiala, alleged that some police officers were calling up BJP candidates and workers in threatening manner and they feared that anything could happen on the day of Municipal Council polling.
However, he assured the party candidates and workers that the party would not allow any such thing to happen and their democratic rights and personal safety would be fully protected.
He said BJP candidates and workers need not fear anything as the party was committed to maintain law and order and uphold democratic values across the country.

Chugh said any police officer or official trying to threaten or intimidate BJP candidates or workers would not be spared, saying that the party was in the process of drawing out a list of such officers which would be sent to the offices of Prime Minister and the Home Minister.
"In fact, such officers are harming the interests of the alliance and trying to weaken it with their activities, just for their vested interests," he alleged.
Polls to 123 municipal councils and one ward of Nagar Panchayat Bariwala will be held on February 25.
