Two officials of the Punjab Forest Department were seriously injured after allegedly being attacked by sand mafia at Seonk village in Mohali, officials said today.
Acting on a tip-off about illegal sand mining, the officials had set up a naka at Seonk- Shingariwala road last night. They had intercepted a tractor-trolley, following which some unidentified man attacked both the officials with sticks and sharp-edged weapons.
Forest officer Davinder Singh and other official Karnail Singh suffered serious injuries in the attack. They were admitted to PGIMER, Chandigarh, where there condition was critical.
Four other officials of the department who had come to rescue them were also attacked by the unidentified men.
