Pb polls: CEC reviews status of Special Summary Revision work

Chief Election Commissioner Nasim Zaidi today reviewed the status of Special Summary Revision work of electoral rolls for the Punjab Assembly polls in 2017, with January 1 being the qualifying date.
The CEC directed the officials to ensure that Electoral Roll is correct and any eligible elector if not enrolled by now be enrolled during continuous revision in 2016 in campaign mode.
He also directed them to start preparatory work for the Assembly polls as well in time so that election machinery is well-equipped and trained for the 2017 exercise.
Zaidi accompanied by Chief Electoral Officer Punjab V K Singh, Deputy Commissioner-cum-District Election Officer Ravi Bhagat presided over the meeting, where ADEO and EROs of the District Amritsar, Additional DEO and EROs of Taran Tarn district were also present.
It was informed in the meeting that Election Commission launched the 'National Electoral Roll Purification and Authentication Programme' (NERPAP) in March.
During intensive door-to-door verification in Punjab 76,3119 names were deleted due to reason of death, shifting and repeated voters by following due procedure and 1,86,879 new electors were enrolled in the electoral rolls up to August last.

Draft Photo Electoral Rolls January 1, 2016 as qualifying date was published on September 15, 2015 across the state.
There were 1,91,14,993 voters in the Draft Electoral Rolls, an official release said.
The meeting also informed that there was net increase of 79,172 voters over the draft rolls published on September 15.
The final publication of the photo electoral roll will take place on January 11 next across the state, the release added.
The projected population for 2016 of the state is 2. 95 crore and the total electors in the state are 1,91,94,165 as on January 1, 2016.
The projected eligible population of the state is 1,99,49,125 which means that about 8 lakh persons who are eligible to enroll have not done so as yet.
There are 1,01,45,425 males, 90,48,464 females and 276 third genders votes in the state.
The gender ratio in the state as per census is 893 whereas the roll shows a gender ratio of 892.
