PCC to have another head office at Gairsain
Press Trust of India Dehradun Uttarakhand Pradesh Congress will have its second head office at Gairsain from where party affairs will be coordinated for a week every month, PCC president Kishore Upadhyay said here today.
Upadhyay has written to Chief Minister Harish Rawat and State Assembly Speaker Govind Singh Kunjwal seeking a plot near the proposed Vidhan Bhawan building at Gairsain where the party's Pradesh headquarters will be set up, he said.
Gairsain is an emotive issue in Uttarakhand as it represents the aspirations of statehood activists who wanted the remote hill town in Chamoli district to be declared the permanent capital of the state.
Though political parties have so far remained non-committal on whether Gairsain will be made the permanent capital of the state, foundation stone of an assembly building has been laid there and a session of the state assembly held there by the Congress government as a symbolic gesture to honour sentiments of the hill people.
