Members of the Press Council of India (PCI) today decided to contest the writ petition filed by the Information & Broadcasting Ministry in the Delhi High Court pertaining to its powers.
A senior functionary of the council also said a resolution was passed as per which it was decided that an amicable solution to the issue would be reached on the basis that the government respects the powers of the Council.
Earlier, the Council had issued summons asking the I&B Secretary to appear before it and then issued a warrant.
The I&B Ministry strongly opposed the move and filed a writ in Delhi High Court after which a bench headed by Justice Manmohan stayed the entire suo moto enquiry and its processes, summons and warrants issued by PCI.
The next date of hearing is on May 4.
