The Amnesty Scheme, announced by the Power Development Department (PDD) to curb the power theft in Jammu and Kashmir, has been decided to be extended by another month.
This was disclosed by the Minister for Finance and Ladakh Affairs, Abdul Rahim Rather in the state Legislative Assembly here today.
"It may be recalled that the scheme envisages waiver of surcharge on the outstanding electricity dues up to March 31st 2011. The domestic consumers who have defaulted can now deposit the principal amounts by April 30, 2013," Rather said.
"The domestic consumers who have paid their bills in time shall not be entitled to any refund. This scheme shall not have any impact on the power dues of 2011-12 and 2012-13 which must be deposited by the consumers," he added.
The minister said the government had received many representations for extending the deadline in view of which the decision has been taken.
