"Our party's politics was not only to attain power but to restore lasting peace in this region and to establish a system of equal justice and opportunities for development and economic growth," Sayeed said while addressing a public meeting at Kangan in Ganderbal district.

The former chief minister sought people's cooperation in changing the system of governance in the state.

He said PDP envisaged a system of fair governance and transparency where people would really feel empowered through their votes.

"It hardly matters whether we are from the government or any other political party but we are committed to the cause of establishing a system that can withstand all pressures and manipulations of political elites," he said.

PDP would continue to work to make political class accountable to the people, he said.

Sayeed alleged the government's move to replace RTI rules was part of an organised attempt to demolish all instruments and institutions of fairness and probity in public life.

He alleged the State Information Commission was purposely weakened and said State Vigilance Commission never saw the light of day inspite of the law being passed many years ago.

While asking the government to reverse the order by virtue of which the new RTI rules were approved, Sayeed said strengthening of institutions of accountability, transparency and human rights was on top of his party's agenda.

He said the PDP is committed to establishing foolproof institutional accountability in the state.
