Opposition PDP today blamed the National Conference-led coalition government for the recent communal violence in Kishtwar, claiming the state government failed to act on intelligence reports.
"It has now become clear that the Kishtwar incident resulted from inaction, incompetence and possible collusion by the state government as it had failed to take action on intelligence reports which had reached more than ten days ahead of the actual trouble," Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) said in a statement at the end of its Political Affairs Committee meeting here.
The meeting, chaired by PDP patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, was convened to review the political situation prevailing in the state and to discuss the party's affairs in view of the upcoming general elections.
Expressing relief at the "positive and constructive" attitude displayed by members of all communities in both Kashmir and Jammu regions, PDP said disruptive elements had failed in the face of people's disapproval of their designs.
It was felt that the Kishtwar incident, which was aimed at setting the state on fire, had actually established that people can rise above any provocation in the interest of communal amity and brotherhood, the party said.
There was a consensus in the meeting that the party has to provide a platform to all sections of the society of Jammu and Kashmir, it said.
