The Peoples Democratic Front (PDP) founding chairman Pynshngain N Syiem joined the ruling National Peoples Party (NPP) on Saturday.
Meghalaya Chief Minister and NPP president Conrad K Sangma welcomed Pynshngain N Syiem into partys fold in the presence of government chief adviser D D Lapang among others at a function at Mawsynram.
The former chief executive member of the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council and a former MLA, Syiem, founded the party ahead of the 2018 assembly elections.
The PDP has four MLAs, two of whom are in the cabinet of Conrad K Sangma.
Syiem tendered his resignation as chairman of the party and his letter was accepted by the party executive earlier this week.
The former MLA from Mawsynram constituency in East Khasi Hills district was also appointed NPP general secretary in-charge of Khasi-Jaintia region, according to an official announcement made at the function.
