PDP Chief Coordinator Choudhary Abdul Hamid said today his party had sought an assurance from the Centre over holding of talks with Hurriyat and Pakistan ahead of government formation in Jammu and Kashmir.
"The foundation of PDP was laid upon the principle of restoration of peace and end of enmity between the two countries," Hamid said at a meeting convened at the party office here.
The party, ahead of the formation of government, sought assurance from the central government over holding talks with Hurriyat and Pakistan for the timely resolution of the long pending Kashmir issue, he added.
He said that the government of India responded positively to the pleas of Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti was a remarkable achievement for the people of Kashmir as the Centre is not only helping the chief minister to usher in a new era of development but is also on the forefront to ensure a peaceful solution.
Welcoming the recent ceasefire on borders, Hamid said the initiatives being taken by the government of India must be welcomed by all in the state irrespective of the party lines as it is Jammu and Kashmir that was getting affected by the arch rivalry between the two countries.
Hamid said the violence on borders was taking toll, affecting the local populace and denying them the right to live peacefully and earn livelihood with dignity.
