Alleging that victims of the cross border shelling were denied 'adequate compensation' by the Jammu and Kashmir government, opposition PDP today observed here a one-day hunger strike.
"The state government is playing with the victim of the cross border shelling in the Jammu region as the compensation package announced is not adequate," PDP's Kissan Cell state president Satpal Singh Charak said.
He said the government must immediately sanction an ex-gratia of Rs five lakh to the next of the kin of the people who lost their lives in the cross border shelling.
"The relatives of the people who were killed in the Pakistani shelling must get an ex-gratia of five Lakh each and the ones who are injured must be given Rs one lakh each," he said.
Charak said the government must sanction free ration to the residents of all the border villages that have been affected by the cross border shelling at least for three months.
"For every cattle killed, the villagers must be given a compensation of Rs 50,000 whereas the compensation for the crop damage must be increased to Rs 4,000 per Kanal instead of the Rs 300," Charak demanded.

He said to resettle the victims of cross border shelling, the state government should give five Marlas of land to them at a safer place.
Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir National Panthers Party chairman Harsh Dev Singh today said Pakistan has always betrayed India when the latter showed goodwill gesture.
"Be it the historic goodwill visit of our former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee to Lahore which was followed by Kargil war or the recent invitation to Nawaz Sharif to attend the swearing in ceremony of Prime Minister Narendra Modi which is being followed by the heavy shelling from across the border, Pakistan has paid back with contempt and malice," he said in a statement issued in Jammu today.
