The PDP on Thursday lashed out at Congress leader Vikramaditya Singh for using "derogatory" words against people who laid down their lives fighting the rule of his grandfather, Maharaja Hari Singh in 1931.

A PDP spokesman said Vikramaditya Singh's use of foul language against 13 July, 1931 martyrs is "derogatory, blasphemous and reflection of feudal mindset".

Vikramaditya Singh, who was an MLC from the PDP till 2017, stoked a controversy by tweeting against the state celebrating 13th July as martyrs' day.

"Martyrs Day should be honoured for those thousands of heroes who have sacrificed their lives for our Nation. On 13th July 1931, plunder, loot & rape by criminals & jailbreakers in Srinagar city was put to an end. It is a blot on J&K that this is glorified as State Martyrs Day," he had tweeted.

Vikramaditya Singh, son of veteran Congress leader Karan Singh, quit the PDP in 2017 and later joined his father's party. His brother Ajatshatru Singh was a minister in the National Conference government from 1996 to 2002 but joined the BJP in 2014.
