PDP patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed today filed his nomination papers from south Kashmir's Anantnag Assembly constituency going to polls in the fourth phase on December 14.
The former chief minister, who is seeking a re-election from the constituency, filed his nomination papers before the Returning Officer of Anantnag Assembly segment.
Sayeed is seeking a fourth term is the state legislature as he was first elected to the House in 1985 from RS Pura in Jammu region and also won the by-elections from Pahalgam seat in 2004 when he was the chief minister.
The PDP patron won from the Anantnag Assembly segment in 2008 by defeating National Conference (NC) candidate Mirza Mehboob Beg by a margin of 4,891 votes. Sayeed polled 12,439 votes while 7,548 votes were cast in Beg's favour.
Beg, who was nominated as the candidate for the Anantnag Assembly seat by National Conference for this year's Assembly elections, withdrew from the contest in favour of Sayeed. He also quit the National Conference.
Addressing a rally after filing his papers, Sayeed said the "divisive" agenda of BJP and its allies in the state could be counter-checked only through a decisive vote.
"PDP sees the upcoming elections as a challenge not only to prevent the divisive and frenzied elements from causing any harm to JK's special status, but safeguarding the state's unique constitutional and pluralistic character by establishing new bonding between the communities and regions," he said, urging people to offset this "new devious challenge" unitedly through democratic means.
The chief ministerial candidate of People's Democratic Party (PDP) said his party's agenda goes beyond good governance on which it has established credentials and it looks forward to paving the way for a dignified resolution of Kashmir.
