Amid reports of post-poll violence in Chikiti assembly segment in Odisha, Ganjam district administration has formed a peace committee to maintain law and order.
"There are 27 members in the committee and they are responsible for maintaining peace at Ankuda, Kaitha, Suna reddy and Patrapur villages under Patrapur block," a senior government official said.
Leaders of different political parties and villagers were taken into confidence before forming the committee, the officer added.
Tension gripped the assembly segment as supporters of BJD and Congress clashed in these villages. Congress candidate Manoranjan Dyansamantara alleged that BJD supporters were creating terror in the area. "We are satisfied with the administration's effort to maintain peace," he said.
Dyansamantara is the son of former assembly Speaker Chintamani Dyansamantara. Women and child development minister Usha Devi is the BJD nominee for the seat.
