At the main function held at the Assam Rifles ground in Aizawl, state governor Lt Gen (Retd) Nirbhay Sharma said that the signing of the accord had proved the dictum that 'pen is mightier than the sowrd'.
The fact that the peace accord made in 1986 has stood the test of time, could only be attributed to the unfailing support of the people of Mizoram", he said.
The celebrations held in 40 places across the state was jointly organised by all the political parties, churches and NGOs under the aegis of the central committee of the Young Mizo Association (YMA).
Peace finally came after the peace accord was signed between the Indian government and the erstwhile underground MNF in Delhi on June 30, 1986 ushering in an era of peace and tranquillity in Mizoram which was accorded a full-fledged statehood in accordance with the provisions of the accord on February 20, 1987.
