Peaceful situation restored in Kishanganj town

Normalcy has returned to Kishanganj town today, three days after a slaughtered animal was found near a shrine triggering tension in the area.
Peace and normalcy has been restored in Kishanganj town and the prohibitory orders in the day done away with, the Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG), Purnia range, Ram Narayan Singh told reporters.
The prohibitory orders will, however, be in place from 8 pm to 6 am till tomorrow as a precautionary measure, the DIG said.
Singh is camping in Kishanganj town to monitor law and order situation.
Addressing a joint press conference, Kishanganj's new Superintendent of Police (SP) Naveen Chandra Jha said that so far 15 people have been arrested for spreading rumour aimed at vitiating law and order and peace in the town.
An additional 350 policemen, including two companies of anti-riot force from Araria, Purnia and Katihar districts have been deployed in the town to ensure peaceful law and order situation.
Meanwhile, the District Magistrate Animesh Kumar has urged the people to guard against various rumours being spread by mischievous elements and said that a message was being sent thorough mobile phones and local cable and dish channels asking the dwellers to ignore such rumours.
