Peas, potato crop destroyed as cloudburst strikes Spiti valley

Peas and potato crops in about 40 bighas of land, three bridges and some houses were washed away in the incessant rains triggered by cloudburst in Kaza area of Himachal Pradesh's Lahaul and Spiti district.
A cloudburst struck Chilling village in cold desert area of Kaza, where rains are a rare phenomenon, and washed away three bridges, peas and potato crops on 40 bighas of cultivated lands and some houses, a senior official said.
The exact loss due to cloudburst is being assessed and affected people being provided relief, he said.
Several areas of the state experienced moderate rains with the local MeT office predicting rain and thundershowers at many places during next 24 hours.
Moderate rains lashed some parts of the state as monsoon remained weak and Dharamsala was wettest in the region with 37.5 mm rains while Dehra Gopipur received 24 mm rains, followed by Berthin 18 mm, Kheri 16 mm, Saloni and Jubbal 15 mm, each, Kandaghat 14 mm, Gaggal and Una 12 mm and Dalhousie 10 mm.
The maximum temperatures increased by two to three degree across the state and Una was hottest in the region with a high of 34.4 degree against 31.8 degree yesterday while Sundernagar and Bhuntar recorded maximum temperatures at 33.4 degree, followed by Nahan 30 degree, Solan 28 degree, Dharamsala 27.4 degree and Kalpa and Shimla 23.4 degree.
There was no significant change in minimum temperatures and Una was hottest during the night with a low of 24.4 degree while Kalpa was coldest in the region with a low of 14.4 deg C.
