Lauding the role of the Election Commission, the security and police in ensuring "free and fair" polls in Bengal, alliance partners Congress and CPI(M) today said the people have already said no to the Mamata Banerjee-led TMC regime in the state.
"There have been certain attempts to unleash terror and rig few booths of certain constituencies. But people along with the security forces have resisted it. We salute the role of the Election Commission, security forces and police forces in ensuring free and fair polls," CPI(M) Politburo member Mohammed Salim said.
"People have resisted the attempts of violence that TMC had tried to unleash, although in certain places they succeeded. Actually TMC knows very well that the mandate is against them and that is why they are using violence and intimidation as tools," he said.
Salim said the days of TMC are "numbered" and the police have shown that they too can work impartially.
"After the fifth phase of polls, we can easily say that people have already said a big no to the TMC regime. The people have voted and have ensured that Mamata Banerjee doesn't enter the state assembly," he added.
Reacting to the poll panel ordering filing of an FIR against sitting Trinamool Congress candidate Sonali Guha after she was caught on camera allegedly ordering party workers to beat up CPI-M polling agents in her constituency, Salim said the incident showed the mindset of TMC.
"It showed the mindset of violence and intimidation (of TMC). But the anti-TMC wave is so strong that people can't be cowed down by those threats."
West Bengal PCC president Adhir Chowdhury said, "The Election Commission had played a brilliant role in ensuring free and fair polls. We have already achieved the majority and the momentum in favour of alliance is getting much stronger with every passing phase. The days of TMC are numbered.
