Retired Supreme Court judge and former West Bengal Human Rights Commission Ashok Ganguly today criticised the present situation in West Bengal and said people have to stand up to defend their rights.
Speaking at a convention, he said we come down to the streets as this was only way to protect ourselves from the situation.
"The state has reached such situation where to protect the police, another police force is required," he said referring to the ransacking of Alipur police station by a mob.
On Suspended Trinamool Congress MP and Saradha ponzi scam accused Kunal Ghosh, Ganguly said "He is an important witness to the entire scam and a probe should be conducted to know how sleeping pills reached him in the jail.
He said Ghosh had been saying several things by which people came to know about those who had been benefited by the Saradha chit fund scam.
He also alleged that the state government had spent several crores of rupees to prevent central agencies to takeover the case.
