Ashish Deshmukh, son of former Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) President Ranjit Deshmukh and main activist of the organisation told reporters at a press conference here that polling would be conducted at different schools and colleges to give impetus to the statehood demand.
Deshmukh said that the organisation undertook a padayatra from Nagpur to Sewagram to create awareness about the demand on September 28 and "exercise of franchise" for statehood would be the next step in the direction.
Deshmukh cited reasons like suicide of 32,000 Vidarbha farmers, economic backlog and failure of successive state governments to do justice to the region, as reasons for demanding a separate statehood for Vidarbha.
