Too frightened to take shelter in doors in the fear that more buildings may collapse, people here have set up makeshift camps in parks and open spaces.
Keeping in view the large number of people staying out in open, the district administration has stepped up security arrangements. The water board, too, has stationed water tankers for these people in the parks.
Following the state government's directive, all schools and colleges here have been closed for two days starting today as a precautionary measure.
"None of the old building here were destroyed or developed cracks due to the quake," ADM city Avinash Singh said, adding "however, thousands of people are spending nights in different parks and open grounds in the city."
He urged the people to stay calm and not to pay heed to any rumours.
Chief Medical Office (CMO) R P Yadav informed that all hospitals in the city are fully equipped to deal with any type of emergency situation arising due to calamity.
