"Although from Monday to Saturday, people can visit the RTOs to apply for their driving licences, they will be required to seek online appointments through the transport department's website before visiting the RTOs on Sundays," he said here.
The Delhi government's decision that all 12 RTOs would remain open seven days a week, except on gazetted holidays, came into effect from yesterday. The working hours have also been extended and now the offices will remain open from 7 AM to 7 PM instead of 10 AM to 5.30 PM.
The transport department will hire more staff so that people don't have to stand in long queues at transport offices for driving licences and renewal of permits, he said.
As per the transport department's directive, duty shifts would be decided by the Motor Licensing Officers (MLOs) concerned as per availability of staff.
