He said it was very important to change the traditional perception that students should stay away from politics.
"With all humility we appeal to the parents to encourage students from taking part in political activities," Lone said adding "we sincerely believe that students deserve to be a part of the policy making and planning which is going to script their tomorrow".
He said PSU would encourage students to be creative in contributing "out-of-box" solutions to the long term political, social and economic issues of Kashmir.
"PSU will do what it takes to ensure that students union elections are held in the Kashmir University," Lone said adding he will approach the High Court if needed.
"Democracy cannot be selective. If elections are held to Assembly, Panchayats and local bodies, what's stopping the government from holding elections to student unions and inculcating a culture of democracy and evolution of leaders?" he asked.
He said Shafaat Siddiqui, a senior law student at Kashmir university, has been unanimously elected as the first president of PSU. PTI MIJ TA KAS
