Jharkhand Governor Draupadi Murmu today emphasized the need for participation of people to enrich their language and culture.
Addressing the 29th Annual Conference of All India Santali Writers Association here, Murmu said despite the government's endeavour to preserve different languages, people would have to come forward to enrich and promote language and culture as these are social issues.
People should feel proud of their language and culture and make efforts to promote and preserve it, Murmu, who shared dais with BJP MP Bidyut Baran Mahato in the function, said.
Murmu paid tribute to Pandit Raghunath Murmu, who created the Santali script 'Ol-chiki'.
She said tribal martyrs such as Birsa Munda, Sidhu-Kanhu and many others and writers had contributed to the freedom movement of the country.
The Governor also unveiled a souvenir on the occasion and felicitated the Sahitya Academy award winner Santali writers.
