Persian princess Mastani inspires Anju Modi's AICW collection

It was while working on Sanjay Leela Bhansali's upcoming "Bajirao Masatni" that designer Anju Modi fell in love with the Persian culture and decided to take inspiration from it for her couture line.
Modi said in order to design Persian princess Mastani's looks in the royal love saga, she did an extensive research about the culture and architecture of Persia and its influences on India.
"My collection is inspired from Persian culture as I have been working on 'Bajirao Masatni' and had to create outfits for the Persian princess' character. She is a girl who hails from Persia and the character is such that I needed to do a lot of research anyway," Modi told PTI.

"Bajirao Masatni" is the story about the great general Maratha Peshwa Baji Rao I (Ranveer Singh), his second wife Mastani (Deepika Padukone) and first wife Kashi (Priyanka Chopra).
The designer earlier collaborated with Bhansali for his 2013 hit "Ram Leela".
Modi, who is known to draw inspiration from the rich textile heritage and design legacy spread over the diverse geographies of India, said for her couture line, she has taken bits and pieces of Persian influences and mixed it with Indian sensibilities.

"Since it is an ancient civilisation, it has got a lot of heritage, tradition, great art work, architecture and mughal motifs, which are slightly different from our usual Rajasthani and Gujarati designs. All this mixed with India ethos has given me ideas to make it a contemporary line," Modi said.

Modi is set to showcase he collection on day three of the Amazon India Couture Week.
When asked if any of the outfits from "Bajirao Mastani" will make its way to the ramp, the designer said, "No, nothing from the film. This is a complete new line.
