Person who changed sex moves court for marriage annulment

In a unique case before a family court here, a person who underwent sex change operation to become a man recently moved a petition for annulment of the marriage on the ground of non-consummation.
The petitioner, a 31-year-old businessman, had undergone sex change operation in 2014 and got married in December next year.
His petition stated that in the surgery his reproductive organs were removed and replaced with male organs. Though he underwent a sex change operation to become a man he was not able to lead a normal sexual life.
The petition further states that he felt like a man trapped in a woman's body. He said his estranged wife had also signed the consent for the surgery as a witness.

He said that his wife was fully aware that she was entering a void matrimony with a person who may not be able to perform normally like a man.
The man's wife, a 29-year-old fashion designer, had moved a local court earlier against him and his family members under the Domestic Violence Act.

Claiming her marriage was a lawful Hindu marriage, she has demanded a maintenance of Rs 1 lakh per month and an accommodation in south Mumbai.
The woman said she met her husband 12 years back and became friends, and that after being in a relationship for seven years she learnt he was "not a man" and wanted to undergo sex reassignment surgery to become one.

She claimed that though she broke up with him, he convinced her about the surgery and later she agreed to marry him after his operation.
In her complaint she said that he would ill treat her and vent out his frustration at being incapable of sexual intercourse.
She alleged that he doubted her and did not allow her to work.
The case is likely to come up for hearing after few months.
