A PIL seeking to reinvestigate the the assassination case of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi has been filed in the Madrs High Court bench here today.
The petitioner V Santhakumaresan, an advocate, said in his PIL that "the reinvestigation, in the interest of justice, may bring out buried truths".
The important grounds under which the petitioner sought reinvestigation included the reported statement of CBI investigating officer Ragothaman in an interview to a Tamil channel recently that the video clippings and recorded tapes of the case had not been handed over to the Special Investigation team.
The supreme court had given two different views on hanging cases (in the cases of Bhullar and Mahendra Das).
Santhan, Murugan and Perarivalan, who were facing death sentence in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case should be protected against this background, the petitioner said.
There was no tangible evidence to prove the involvement of LTTE in the assassination of Rajiv Gandhi, he said.
He said he had given representation to Secretary, External Affairs, Director of Research and Analysis Wing and Additional Director of CBI to reinvestigate the case. But no action had been taken so far.
