A petrol pump employee was shot at and robbed of over Rs 21 lakh by two unidentified bike-borne men in Kotwali police area here, police said today.
Later he died at a hospital during treatment, they said.
The incident occurred yesterday noon when Narendra (45) along with his colleague Yogesh was on his way to a bank on a motorcycle to deposit cash Rs 21.78 lakh, police said.
Midway, two bike-borne men stopped them and threw chili powder in the eyes of Narendra which did not affect him as he was wearing a helmet, they said.
Following which one of them shot at Narendra at close range and fled with the cash, they said, adding that he was rushed to a nearby hospital where during the treatment died at midnight.
Narendra is survived by wife and three children, including a married daughter, Station House Officer of Kotwali Police Station Inspector Bharat Kumar said.
While Narendra has been working at the petrol pump for last many years, Yogesh had joined only a fortnight ago, he said.
A probe was on in the matter and efforts were on to nab the culprits, Kumar said.
