A theft case has been registered after petroleum products were allegedly stolen over a span of one month from several channels of Indian Oil's Mathura- Jalandhar pipeline near Ajhai village, an official today said.
"We received an information of theft. The pipeline passes through fields and crops, so it is very difficult to detect. However, we could detect three points - Kotban, Arhera and Ajai colony - and have plugged them. A fourth point has also been detected," Veerendra Kumar, the manager Telecom and Instrumentation Northern area pipeline, said.
The thieves fixed a valve in the pipelines to take out petroleum products like petrol, diesel and others, he said.
The role of an expert in the theft could not be ruled out, Kumar said, adding the actual loss is being ascertained.
The manager said they submitted a complaint on February 6 but the police registered an FIR on February 27.
