The Power Grid Corporation of India (PGCIL) has temporarily stayed laying of electricity transmission lines in Niphad, Chandwad and Dindori tehsils in Nashik district following strong objection raised by farmers.
"The stay is for a period of 10 days and PGCIL will undertake new survey to lay down the high-pressure transmission lines on the dry agriculture lands or wasteland instead of grape orchards or other agriculture land to prevent losses to farmers," PGCIL chairman R N Nayak told reporters yesterday.
Officiating District Collector Bhanudas Palve today said, "We are finding alternative solution to the issue.
The PGCIL move came after the grape cultivators led by public representatives said that laying of the transmission lines will cause heavy loss to their crop.
The farmers also offered the PGCIL other routes to carry out their lines which would not only ensure that the line passes over the barren lands but also ensures that the farmers are ready to surrender the same.
