The call for protest was given by Kashmir PHE Joint Employees Association in support of its demand for regularisation of daily wage workers, casual labourers and need-based workers.
They also demanded their pending salaries be released and paid regularly.
Carrying black flags, the agitating employees staged a peaceful sit-in outside press enclave at Partap Park in the heart of the city - third such demonstration by the workers this month.
The employees staged demonstration at the same venue on April 10 and April 18 but were baton charged by police. On both the occasions, police also detained several employees including their leaders briefly.

Accusing the government of turning a blind eye towards their "legitimate" demands, the employees threatened to intensify their agitation.
"The inaction of the government has left us with no option but to hit the roads. If our demands are not met immediately, we will take the agitation to New Delhi," employees leader Sajad Ahmad said.
He said the association is chalking out its strategy and will stage a protest in New Delhi soon.
