Physically challenged people responsibility of society,govt:CM

Making physically challenged people self reliant by providing them all opportunities was the responsibility of the society and the government, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav said today.
"Responsibility of the government was higher as it has more resources. The state government is taking all possible steps to help in the upliftment of needy people," Yadav said while addressing a programme organised by Shakuntala Mishra University at his official residence here.
The CM said that the government was very sensitive for resolving the problems being faced by physically challenged people and was implementing various schemes effectively keeping their interests into consideration.

He accepted the suggestion to change the name of 'Viklang Kalyan Vibha'.
Akhilesh directed that free mess facility should be provided to students of physically challenged category in the university.
He assured that the government would provide cooperation for the intermediate college for physically challenged students as proposed by the university.

The CM said that the government was going to implement 'Samajwadi Pension Scheme' under which a pension of Rs 500 per month would be given to each beneficiary and later the amount would be raised to Rs 750 per month.
He said that a provision of Rs 2,424 crore has been made in the budget in the current fiscal for the scheme which target to benefit 40 lakh families in the state.

He claimed that it was the first pension scheme in the country which was being implemented at such a large scale.
Akhilesh said that despite limited resources the government was committed for the development of the state.
He said that priority was being accorded to projects related to road, bridge, power and water.
The CM said the government was making effort that UP becomes a leading state in terms of infrastructure facilities in the next two years.
Vice-Chancellor Professor Nishith Rai while giving information regarding the activities of the university said that a rehabilitation centre would be set up soon.

He said that a centre of sign language would also be set up with the cooperation of University of Central Lancashire.
