Pictures of Sikh gurus in US bar a blasphemous act: SGPC
Press Trust of India Amritsar The SGPC, apex religious bodies of the Sikhs, today sought removal of pictures of Sikh gurus from a bar in the US, saying such acts hurt the sentiments of the community.
In a statement here, SGPC chief Avtar Singh Makkar expressed deep concern over the display of full-size pictures of Sikh gurus at a liquor bar near Los Angeles.
"It hurts the sentiments of the Sikh community all over the world and it is a blasphemous act," he said.
The management should immediately remove the pictures, Makkar said urging the concerned authorites to take stringent action against the bar management.
A pub in Hollywood near Los Angeles has displayed full size posters of Sikh gurus in their bar area, outraging the community members and forcing the owners to issue an apology.
