Thanga told media persons the PRRS outbreak, which caused death of more than 3,500 pigs in six districts of Mizoram since early April till July, was not spread by piglets distributed under the NLUP.
"We conducted a study from the beneficiaries of the NLUP and found none of the pigs distributed under the flagship program died and none of them were taken ill," he said.
The Opposition parties have accused the state government of being responsible for the recent PRRS outbreak saying 42,000 piglets were imported from Myanmar where the dreaded swine disease was prevalent during 2014.
It was done despite the fact that over 3,000 pigs died in Mizoram during March-April, 2013, which was also caused by pigs and piglets imported from the neighbouring country, they alleged.
