PIL by Stalin on building collapse adjourned to Jan 28

The Madras High Court today adjourned to January 28 next year a PIL filed by DMK treasurer and leader of the Opposition M K Stalin seeking a CBI probe into the collapse of a multistoreyed building here in 2014 in which 61 people were killed.
When the case came up today, the Advocate General submitted a report, stating that the second multistoreyed block had been demolished as per the directions of the high court and Supreme Court, following which the bench adjourned the matter to January 28.
On June 28, 2014, one of the two blocks of an under- construction residential building at suburban Moulivakkam had collapsed, killing 61 workers and injuring scores of people.

Subsequently, the adjacent block too was declared unsafe by authorities. An order for demolition of the unsafe structure had been issued under 141 CrPC.
When the matter went to the Supreme Court, it allowed the building to be brought down after perusing an expert committee's report.
The second 11-storeyed tower was demolished on November 2, using implosion technique.
