A PIL was today filed in the Madras High Court Bench here seeking a direction to authorities to issue a government order or a notification or circular to the district collectors directing them not to insist on people producing their Aadhar card to avail government benefits, citing a Supreme Court order.
The apex court had on August 11 ruled that Aadhar card will not be mandatory for availing benefits of government's welfare schemes, as it barred authorities from sharing personal biometric data collected for enrolment under the scheme.
The Petitioner Sebastin Raj said till the issue of constitutional validity of the issuance of Aadhar Card which was pending before the Supreme court was decided, officials should not insist on Aadhar cards.
He alleged that District authorities had passed an order insisting on old age pensioners producing their Aadhar card within a stipulated period.
