PIL filed in HC seeking separate uniform for SSIs

A PIL was today filed in the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court seeking separate uniform for Special Sub Inspectors who had been promoted after ten years of service as head constables.
A Division Bench of Justice Jaichandran and Justice M Venugopal sought the response of the Principal Home Secretary and DGP.
The petitioner O Homerlas of Vellicode in Kanyakumari district said SSIs were promotees who were head constables for ten years.
Police officials from the rank of DGP to constables had different uniforms, but Sub-Inspectors and SSIs were issued the same uniform leading to confusion, it was submitted.
