: A PIL was filed at Madras High court bench today by 'Puratchi Thalaivi Amma Free Legal Aid Centre', seeking to detain DMDK leader Vijaykanth under Goondas Act for allegedly acting in a manner prejudicial to maintenance of public order "by commiting grave crimes in public'.
Petitioner A Jeyaram, the secretary and legal advisor to the centre, submitted that by doing so the DMDK leader had created Panic and a feeling of insecurity in the minds of the people of Tamil Nadu.
He alleged that Vijayakant was also involved in a large number of cases, including an attempt to murder case which was pending in tations.
Using normal criminal law against him would not have the desired effect and prevent him from indulging in such actitivities, he said.
Jeyaram said he had requested the Thanjavur district collector and State Home secretary to detain him under Goondas act. But no action had been taken.
Hence he moved court, he said.
