A PIL was today moved in Delhi High Court alleging that complainants are being stopped from carrying mobile phones into police stations in order to safeguard corrupt policemen from being caught on camera accepting bribes.
The plea was mentioned before a bench of justices Mukta Gupta and P S Teji which declined to hear the matter today and asked the petitioner to move the court after the vacation, saying there was no urgency.
The public interest litigation (PIL), by Manjeet Singh Chugh and Ankush Wohra, said that Delhi Police had in August last year launched its vigilance number 1064 for lodging complaints against its corrupt officials and it was widely publicised through various media.
It said that as per the publicity campaign of the number, people were told that when a Delhi Police official seeks bribe, they should make an audio or video recording of the same and send it by WhatsApp to the vigilance department or to call on 1064.
However, now mobile phones are not being allowed inside police stations and are being kept at the reception, the petition said.
