PIL in SC on botched up sterilisation surgeries in
Press Trust of India New Delhi A PIL has been filed in the Supreme Court seeking its direction for a judicial probe in the botched up sterilisation surgeries at government-run medical camps in Chhattisgarh which have so far claimed lives of 13 young women.
The PIL alleged that health authorities of Chattisgarh have miserably failed to protect the life of the women who underwent tubectomy under the mass sterilization campaign.
The apex court had on November 12 refused to take suo motu cognisance of news reports relating to alleged medical negligence in the mass sterilisation surgeries and allowed a lawyer, who mentioned the case, to file petition on the issue.
The surgeon, who performed tubectomy procedures on 83 women at a camp in a matter of few hours, has been arrested and the state's Food and Drug Administration authorities have sealed a manufacturing unit which allegedly supplied sub-standard medicines administered to the victims.
