A petition has been filed before the Delhi High Court seeking direction to the Delhi government and the Lieutenant Governor to constitute a Madarsa Board for the national capital to meet the educational and other basic requirements of children belonging to the minority community.
The petition has been filed by NGO Gharib Nawaz Foundation before Acting Chief Justice B D Ahmed and Justice Vibhu Bakhru but could not be heard today as the bench did not sit.
The petition has sought direction to the Delhi government "to formulate and put into operation a Madrasa Board for Delhi to cater to the educational requirements of the minority community of Mohammedan children as absence of any such board is resulting in serious lack of educational facilities for such children and other basic needs."
The NGO said there are many madrasas in other states like Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan which impart education to children and look after other basic needs of food, stationery and clothing.
The petition also said that it came to their knowledge that all these madarsas in these states are "either looked after by educational Madrasa Board of those states or through such other agencies provided through and governed by the government of those states."
"As a result, the children of neighbouring states are acquiring better education," the petition said.
The petition said there is no such educational Madarsa Board to which the responsibility for imparting education and basic needs of 'Mohammedan minorities' could be transferred.
The petition has sought that a notice be issued to the Delhi government and the LG for formulation of Madrasa Board for looking after the education and other basic needs of children of "Mohammedan minorities" and also allocate funds at its disposal for meeting such needs.
