The Telangana State IAS Officers Association today demanded that the probe into the alleged "rash behaviour" by a ruling TRS MLA with the Mahabubabad district collector earlier this week be entrusted to a woman officer not below the rank of an IG.
The president of the state IAS officers body made this demand after meeting Chief Secretary S P Singh.
"B P Acharya IAS, the Association President, while submitting a representation to the chief secretary, has requested that the investigation be entrusted to a woman officer not below the rank of an IG," a state government release said.
Acharya thanked Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao and the chief secretary for their prompt action in the incident, it said.
The MLA from Mahabubabad, B Shankar Nayak, had allegedly behaved rudely with the collector at a public meeting organised during the programme to launch 'Harita Haaram' (a plantation drive), in that district on Wednesday.
A police investigation into the incident was initiated, following which the MLA was arrested yesterday and later released on bail.

"The chief secretary listened to the issue and thanked all for showing solidarity with the officer. He said that the government will take action according to law.
"He also said that women should be respected in the society and government will set up an institutional mechanism to prevent such incidents in future by setting up a grievance redressal cell," it added.
