"There are several issues related to nurses like salary disbursement, job surety, internal harassment of nurses, among others. Therefore, an anti-harassment cell needs to be set up in private hospitals to give them justice," Riju Poykail, INA president, said in a press conference.

"Anti-harassment units have also been set up at MGM hospitals at Panvel and Vashi (in Navi Mumbai) and at Metro hospital in Thane," he said adding that they aim to set up such cells at every private hospital in Maharashtra.

The idea of setting up such a cell came following the suicide committed by a 22-year nurse, Beena Bebi, in October last year. She had killed herself after she was allegedly harassed by the authorities at the Asian Heart Hospital in suburban Bandra, he said.

Poykail said that one of the reasons behind setting up these cells is to avoid incidents like the Beena Bebi tragedy.

He alleged that the hospital authorities are yet to hand over Bebi's autopsy report, her mobile phone and the certificate of nursing to her kin.

Meanwhile, the association has planned to take a candle-light march at the Asian Heart Hospital tomorrow to to pay homage to Bebi, he said.
