"The proposed university would promote peace and harmony by finding ways to resolve conflicts through the teachings and philosophy of Gandhiji," Gogoi said at a meeting organised here on the occasion of the Bapu's 145th birth anniversary by the Kamrup (Metropolitan) district administration.
Gandhiji spread the message of brotherhood, tolerance and love for fellow humans throughout his life and his teachings were relevant for all times to come, he said.
"If we want to bring an end to violence and save the world and mankind, we have to follow in the footsteps of Gandhiji by adopting 'ahimsa', or non-violence," he said, adding that various initiatives would be taken up aimed at disseminating Gandhiji's valuable philosophy among the people.
"Plans are also on the anvil for installing a statue of Gandhiji in every district and to make a film on him to inspire and motivate the youth," he added.
