The first time it was shown was in 1985 in Pune. Since then the play has been staged over 864 times in 16 districts of Maharashtra, Agra, Delhi, Bhopal, and the United States.
"This is a way to ensure that the life and times of Chatrapati Shivaji can be presented for the youth of this country. They should know that the brave Shivaji dreamt of building a nation and how he worked towards it," Culture Minister Mahesh Sharma said.
Originally written in Marathi, this work was later translated into Hindi. This play is performed by over 200 artists, as well as elephants, camels and horses.
