Four months after Chief Minister Jayalalithaa's victory by a huge margin of 1.5 lakh votes trouncing CPI's C Mahendran in RK Nagar bypoll here, the validity of the result has been challenged in the Madras High Court.
Social activist Traffic Ramasamy, who fought against Jayalalithaa as an independent, has filed an election petition in the court alleging vitiation of result by corrupt practices and abuse of official position.
The plea is expected to come up before Justice Pushpa Sathyanarayana tomorrow. Ramasamy, in his plea, wanted the election commission to declare Jayalalithaa's election from RK Nagar constituency as null and void.
After she was acquitted by the Karnataka High Court in a disproportionate assets case, Jayalalithaa assumed office as Chief Minister for the fifth time in May this year.
Soon after, she won handsomely in the bypoll held on June 27 and result for which was declared on June 30.
All her rivals lost their deposit. Mahendran managed to secure 9,710 votes while Ramaswamy 4,590 votes.
In May, AIADMK MLA Vetrivel had resigned from RK Nagar seat from where he was elected to the Assembly in 2011.
