The first bench comprising Chief Justice Indira Banerjee and Justice M Sundar passed the order on a PIL filed by one R Srinivasa Rao.
Impleading the HR&CE as respondent, the bench directed the Government Pleader to obtain instructions in this regard and posted the matter to June 13.
Stating that the Thiruvalluvar Memorial in Mylapore here was renewed in 1935 by two persons, Kanniyappa Nayakkar and Subramani Chettiyar, the petitioner submitted that thereafter no maintenance work was carried out.
He prayed for a Court direction to the Home Secretary, District Collector, Chennai,and Tamil Nadu Tourism Development Corporation to renew 12 grounds of Thiruvalluvar memorial and to appoint a Special Officer for regular maintenance, and to declare the place as a world class tourist spot.
