Plea for action against cops for attacking ex-servicemen

The Delhi High Court today closed the case of alleged attrocities on a 75-year-old protesting ex-serviceman during One Rank, One Pension (OROP) by the Delhi Police which tendered an unconditional apology to him.
"All's well that ends well," Justice Siddharth Mridul said after the counsel for the Delhi police agreed to tender an apology without any prejudice to the contention raised in the petition.
Former sepoy Bishamer told the court that he wished to withdraw his petition for action against the police who ordered use of "brutal and illegal force" on retired war veterans at Jantar Mantar on August 14 while they were protesting if they tendered an unconditional apology.

Earlier, the court had declined to order a judicial probe into the alleged atrocities by the Delhi Police against the veterans, saying it cannot institute such an inquiry due to limitations.
