Plea seeks to stop Actors Assn from encroaching road

A PIL has been filed in the Madras High Court seeking a direction to various government agencies not to allow Nadigar Sangam Charitable Trust and South Indian Artistes Association (SIAA) to encroach on a road in T Nagar area in the city.
A vacation bench of Justices N Kirubakaran and Justice V Parthiban before which a petition filed by K M Srirangan, a resident of Vidyodaya Road, came up for hearing, ordered notice to the Trust and SIAA returnable bytomorrow.
The petitioner claimed the Trust and SIAA were attempting to encroach on a 33-feet wide public road leading from Habibullah Road to Vidyodaya First Cross Road.
Also, he submitted that in an effort to encroach upon the road, the Trust and Artistes Association were preventing local people from using the oad.
The plan approved by the appropriate authorities showed that the road connecting Habibullah Road and Prakasam Street had been encroached by them, he said.
He also submitted that the Nadigar Sangam had purchased only 14 grounds, but now claimed right over 18 grounds, including the road.

It had also obtained a "patta" including the 33-feet road abutting the eastern side, by unlawful means, the PIL said.
The petitioner said the trust and Sangam were planning some multiplex construction on the land in a place, which was primarily a residential area.
They had started pile foundation even without the approval of the plan and tenders are being floated contrary to rules and regulations.
A representation datedApril 1had been submitted to the authorities concerned, the petitioner added.
